LINCOLN — Omaha attorney Jacqueline DeLuca was named Wednesday as Nebraska’s next U.S. magistrate judge.

DeLuca, a magna cum laude graduate of Creighton University School of Law, will fill a vacancy left by the retirement of Magistrate Judge Cheryl Zwart.

DeLuca currently works for PayPay on its litigation team. Previously, she was a partner with Fraser Stryker, focusing primarily on civil litigation.

She is also a former law clerk to U.S. District Judge Richard Dorr of the Western District of Missouri.

DeLuca will take her new, $213,992-a-year post on Jan. 16.

Nebraska has three United States magistrate judges, two based in Omaha and one in Lincoln.

Magistrate judges preside over most pretrial proceedings in federal civil and criminal matters and misdemeanor trials. They may preside over civil trials with the consent of the parties.
